About Us

SMACD building

The St Marys Area Community Development Project (SMACD) is a not for profit community based organisation managed and run by local people.

We are working to improve services and facilities in the St Marys area. Together with others we also organise a range of activities at St Marys and Claremont Meadows Community Centres. We always welcome new ideas and energy.

SMACD provides a variety of classes, groups and activities. These activities range from Tai Chi, Tapestry and other forms of Needle Art, Creative Writing, and a variety of Arts and Crafts programs. See What’s On for the latest activities calendar.

SMACD was originally funded by the NSW Dept of Planning for 6 years. In July 2002 our service was picked up by the Family & Community Services through the Community Builders Program.

We employ three part time workers who are assisted by volunteers.

We aim to…

  • Find out from people what they would like to see happening in their community.
  • Set up activities and services to meet local needs.
  • Provide information to people about useful resources in the community.
  • Assist people in having a voice about things that effect their lives.
